Well, this has been one of the most challenging questions to answer in my whole career. It might sound silly, but in reality, it is pretty difficult when you start thinking it from a beginner’s mindset in this endless journey.
The short answer to this question is “It is possible” I will not tell it’s easy, but it is easy if you follow certain standards and steps strategically, which increases your value as an individual or as even as a brand.
Well, I will dive deep into these standards and steps to make your journey a little comfortable.
Let’s start with the first and most crucial step.
Steps to land up on a freelance project
Give an address to yourself. Segregate all those impressive works of yours to present them to the world. Obviously, as a beginner, you might not be having a lot of projects. But it is ok to take those works you think were your best. Because you must figure out what’s best and try to understand your audience.
Now, it’s time to build a platform to showcase who you are, what you have done, and what you are capable of. You can present yourself by creating a website. (You can check this website to understand what I meant). You should provide content in a way that your website users should get a clear idea about you, just like what I have done on my about us page.
Then you can make use of the audience in your social media circle. It can be Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or even Twitter. But make sure you choose the right space where you think your audiences are active. (Something like this would do, check this social media handle)
Now you have your work in hand, a platform where you have listed them. The next big thing is to get some good connections either by referrals or by taking up small projects. Don’t be shy to ask for referrals from your friends or family initially, because even if the client trusts you, they might give you a chance based on the referral reputation.
If possible, spare some time to join some communities and organizations that do charities or share knowledgeable programs to those in need and be active in the community to increase visibility.
At this point, you would be in a position where you start to get inquiries from your prospective clients, and if this doesn’t happen, recheck your steps and strengthen your loopholes and restart.
Ya, it takes some time to follow these steps, and always remember progress starts from the first step you take. By following these steps you increase your worth and visibility among your prospective client. This would be more than enough to land you on your first freelance project.
